Brief Note on Hunsur TMC:
Hunsur ULB(Town Municipal Council) was started in the year 1925.The ULB consists of 27 wards with respective Number of Councilors.The total population of the town is around 52,000 and the total area of the town is 10.36 sq.km. Hunsur is 45km from Mysore and 187 km from the capital city of Bangalore.
Physical and Economic feature of Hunsur:
Hunsur is a very old town with history dating back to 250 years. In the olden days the place was called as ‘Gadi Palya’ because it was famous for making bullock carts. later on the place came to be known as Hunsur.The town is on the either banks of the Lakshmanteertha, a tributary of the Cauvery.Town panchayat system was established in Hunsur on 9-9-1919.Town panchayat was converted into municipality from 13-1-1925.Hunsur town is located on a strategically important place on the Mysore-Mangalore state highway.Hunsur is the sub-divisional headquarter for four surrounding taluks of K.R.Nagar,H.D Kote,Periyapatna and Hunsur.Coorg district and dense forests border Hunsur taluk.Nagarahole National Park which is recently renamed as Rajiv Gandhi National Park is located just 48 Kms.Hunsur is very famous for different kinds of wood, like Teak,Rose Honne,Mathi etc.,about 50 saw mills are located here to cut the wood.Many people in and around Hunsur are agriculturists by profession. They grow Paddy, Ragi, Maize, and commercial crops like Tobacco, Cotton etc.,Tobacco & Cotton are highly profitable commercial crops and are grown in large areas.The central Government has located its Tobacco Research Station in Hunsur which is very helpful to the farmers. Sericulture is also being developed in Hunsur.Since Hunsur is a sub-divisional headquarter,many head-offices of government departments taluk is cosmopolitan in nature.The average floating population of Hunsur is around 5000.The current population of the town is around 52,000.The main source of water for drinking and agriculture purpose is the river Lakshman Theertha which is a tributary of river Cauvery and which flows through the heart of the town.

COMPUTARIZATION
We are very happy to intimate the citizens of Hunsur town that we have computerizes the Birth and Death certificates from 1990 to 2010 under state Government KMRP computerization scheme, from now on wards citizens are requested to visit the citizen service centre at the office for registration and getting of Birth and Death certificates by paying service fee.Citizens are requested to make use of this facility.

Solid Waste Management:
Solid Waste Management in 23 wards has been outsourced. It includes street sweeping and waste transportation. Citizens has to encourage the door to door collection activities in the wards and pay the service charges as per the MSW-rules for door-to-door collections.
